This is a collection of pieces Daniel has done over a ten year period – kind of a best of the best, and does not include the hundreds of Tolkien Illustrations, or Comic Work he has done. Many of the works in here were done for books, commissions for individuals, invites & cards, or personal pieces.

Hey Dan, the site looks great. I’ve enjoyed checking in to see the gallery grow. Of course, I’ve seen your work before but it’s still great looking through the galleries again.

Hey Dan, I saw a link to your work on http://www.temeraire.org/ – amazing work and detail on the dragons. Do you have any plans to do Iskierka?

    Hi Bethany,

I actually just finished a piece with Iskierka part of the group: In Good Company the individual pieces were Christmas gifts for my siblings and the larger piece with all the dragons, a private commission. I’d love to do all the major dragons from the novels if I can find the time. I think my dream gig would be to do a graphic novel adaption of the series. :) Thanks for the kind words!

wow it would be quiet a thing to see a graphic novel of temeraire. You must truly read the series to have gotten the size scale correct.

I think I would give a part of my anatomy for the chance to do a Temeraire graphic novel adaptation. Naomi Novik’s tale is so vivid and and the imagery so rich, it begs to be explored visually. Each of these characters illustrations have been a real pleasure to visualize. I’ve probably re-read the series about 5 times, and the first novel, perhaps 10-15, with bookmarks at descriptive sections about specific dragons, characters, objects, and settings. I aim to put to visual, all I can from the first novel, then move on to dragons and characters from the second, etc..

Your art is gorgeous. I especially like your Novik-verse stuff. You stuff is spot on. Thank you.
Do you do commission work or take suggestions?

Thanks Matthew! I appreciate it :) I’m a huge fan of Naomi’s series and I love hearing the response to those pieces in particular :) Most of my work I do as commissions, or towards my own purposes, though the Temeraire stuff is mostly fan work, though I’d leap at the opportunity to do something more official around the worlds she’s created.

[...] was supposed to be a handsome dragon, but you can see that in the artwork above, as created by Daniel Govar.  (Found this from a post on Ms. Novik’s website.) Share this:ShareFacebookTwitterLike [...]
