This is a smattering of the hundreds of illustrations Daniel did over the last 12 years of Tolkien-based artwork. To view many of them, please visit his Flash-based website ThereAndBackAgain.net. Some of the illustrations were for various books he illustrated, both interiors and cover pieces, while others were for interstitials.

    Hey, Daniel.
I am thrilled to see your illustrations getting coloured. I think they look brilliant as they originally did in TABA (sepia vintag-y), but the colours make them pop.
Your Fëanor illustration has always been one of my favourites, from the very beginning of discovering TABA, which is now quite a few years ago. Should be interesting to see if he will some time be adorned with colours as well. Fëanor is, in any case, spot on in my eyes.

Thanks Irene! Yeah, I need to do some more modern Tolkien works, but it’s tough finding the time. If there was one Tolkien piece you’d like to see in my newer style, what would it be? I’ll make it a mission to do that one when I have the time…

I would like to suggest a drawing of tar-aldarion (king). He´s one of the characters with more depth in the lord of the rings universe.

I’m so glad I was able to find this site! Daniel, you MIGHT remember me from the late 2012 New Orleans Comic Con. I came up to the table and immediately identified a drawing of Ulmo. I was able to name off nearly every character in your drawings as well. If you had the rest of the Valar and Maiar with you, you certainly would have left with all my money! All of this is just great. I know the pieces on here and TABA are not your complete collection. I just wish I could see all of the art you have done.

    Hi Daniel,

A friend of mine was saying there was a merman illustration in one of J.R.R. Tolkien’s books. Do you know of this merman illustration, and if so, have you drawn it as well?

    Thank you,

This is news to me – I’ve never seen one, nor done one inspired by Tolkien. Drawn lots of Tolkien, and lots of Merfolk, though ;)
